South African startup Exam Ticket has launched its peer-to-peer trading platform for students, allowing users to buy and sell student material such as books, electronics and furniture.
Exam Ticket also allows students to get access to various types of accommodation, events and bursaries, with the startup saying it takes pride in providing students with basic academic resources.
Chief executive officer Collen Mphabantshi told Disrupt Africa the team has noticed the lack of a platform for students to trade second-hand items, while there was also no central platform for advertising student accommodation, events or bursaries.
Exam Ticket is currently active in all universities in Pretoria, and is currently moving into colleges. Its short-term goal is to achieve full coverage there in the next few weeks before launching in Johannesburg.
“By the end of September or October we should be active in all universities and colleges in Gauteng,” Mphabantshi said.
“From November we will roll out the system into other institutions outside Gauteng, with the ultimate goal of being in all institutions of higher learning by January 2017.”
Exam Ticket charges a handling fee for every item sold on the store and the uploading of accommodation and events adverts.
