Seedstars opens applications for Ethiopia event

Seedstars World has opened applications for the Ethiopian leg of its global competition, with 10 startups to be selected to pitch for the chance to represent the country and compete for US$1 million in funding at the global final next year.

Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, has already picked winning startups in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria and Ghana,

The Addis Ababa event will take place on September 14, with applications open here until September 7. Companies must be less than two years old, have raised less than US$500,000 in funding, and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction.

“We are very excited to bring Seedstars World for the second time to Ethiopia. Last year we were impressed by the quality of the startups and the industries they were trying to disrupt. This year we are looking for even more out-of-the-box, exciting solutions to come our way at our event,” said Selam Kebede, associate at Seedstars World.

Seedstars World is working with the iceaddis hub, which is representing the initiative throughout the year.

”We had a great experience working with Seedstars World in the past two years. We are very excited about this year’s competition as well. Startups in our community hugely benefit from this initiative and gain impactful support and networking,” said Markos Lemma, co-founder of iceaddis.
