E-learning startup winner at Seedstars Abidjan

E-learning startup Etudesk, which assists academic institutions and companies in setting up their own online learning programmes, was named the winner of the Ivory Coast leg of the global Seedstars World startups competition over the weekend.

Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, has already picked winning startups in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria and Ghana.

It visited Abidjan over the weekend, with Etudesk beating off competition from 10 other startups to take the top spot. The startup will now go on to represent the country at the global final in Switzerland next year, where it will pitch for up to US$1 million in investment.

Etudesk is a web application that helps academic institutions, organisations and companies to easily create online learning programmes. Using Etudesk, users can set up their own learning platform in less than one minute, and create courses including things like video, quizzes, activities and certificate integration.

They can then track a student’s progression and discuss issues with them, and add a paid subscription system to monetise the page.

Second place went to solar company Aphelion Energy, while waste management application COLIBA was third. The eight other startups that pitched at the event were find-a-craftsman platform Mon Artisan, online courses solution FORTITUDE, jobs app Kalejob, domestic services startup DJAZI, tracking tool Traffety, mobile credit company SimPay, digital payments startup Syca SAS, and learning solution ZoomVocal SARL.
