Kenyan e-learning startup Eneza Education has passed the one million user mark as it looks to realise its goal of providing last mile educational services across Africa and beyond.
Launched in 2012, Eneza Education uses low-cost mobile technology to give users educational lessons and assessments using SMS, web and Android platforms.
In March, the startup partnered with mobile operator Safaricom to roll out Shupavu 291, a revision study tool that works through SMS and USSD.
Partnerships such as this have helped Eneza surpass the one million user mark, with 1.1 million unique devices now registered on its platform.
“Our investors believed in that mission before we had a business model and now that we have one ripe for rapid expansion, they are with us every step of the way,” Eneza said. “Our experienced management team share a desire to transform African education in the millions before anything else, and now we’ve stepped in the millions, so we can focus on the rest.”
Eneza also recently raised funding from an East Africa-focused social venture fund established by Global Partnerships and the Eleos Foundation.
