Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has announced the 11 startups that will pitch at its event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the chance to represent the country at the global final in Switzerland.

Seedstars World has already chosen winners in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana,Ivory Coast and Mali, and will hold its event in Ethiopia on September 16.

The winning startup will proceed to the global final to pitch for up to US$1 million in equity investment.

“We are very excited to bring Seedstars World for the second time to Ethiopia. Last year we were impressed by the quality of the startups and the industries they were trying to disrupt. This year we are looking forward for even more out-of-the-box, exciting solutions to come our way,” said Selam Kebede, associate at Seedstars World.

The 11 startups selected to participate at the Seedstars World pitching event include solar-based poultry incubator provider Kale General Electronics, nutrition communication platform VitaBite Nutrition, ridesharing platform GurshaRides, mobile payments startup Simbir and management software Yeneta.

The list is completed by agri-tech startup Abithrone, taxi app ZayRide, software provider MelaHub, book distribution platform  Addistag Systems, talent finder Stavimer, and events marketplace Hulubet.

The event will take place at iceaddis, which is co-organising the event, with the startups to pitch to a panel of judges. Additional support is provided by XHub Addis, VC4Africa, 251 Communications, EastAfrica Gate, Krimson PLC, EIABC, Ethiopian Architects,  DesignWeek and AddisInsight.
