Applications have opened for the Attacq Retail Ideas Programme Pitching Platform, which will offer the winning participant ZAR100,000 (US$7,435) in seed funding.

Disrupt Africa reported last month Stellenbosch University’s LaunchLab incubator had teamed up with real estate capital growth fund ATTACQ to host an innovation challenge focusing on the retail industry.

The process has now started on participating campuses around the country, namely Stellenbosch University, the University of Western Cape (UWC), the University of Cape Town (UCT), the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), the University of Johannesburg, Wits University, the University of KwaZulu Natal and the University of Pretoria.

“We want to create opportunities that expose bright entrepreneurial minds. LaunchLab’s Pitching Platform is a great platform for aspiring and emerging entrepreneurs to test the viability of their business ideas and to gain access to a valuable entrepreneurial network,” said Philip Marais, chief executive officer (CEO) of LaunchLab.

The contest is open to all aspiring entrepreneurs from student and non-student communities, with applications closing on September 23. Successful startups can win seed funding and incubation support. The final judging event will be hosted at the LaunchLab on October 19.
