Events marketplace Hulubet wins Seedstars Ethiopia

Online events marketplace and aggregator Hulubet has been named the winner of the Ethiopian leg of the Seedstars World startup competition, and will now represent the country at the global final in Switzerland.

Hulubet beat off competition from 10 other startups in Addis Ababa to earn its place in the final, where it will pitch alongside other winners from around the world for up to US$1 million in equity investment.

The startup provides a highly customisable online event aggregator platform, providing a wide-ranging variety of local events across multiple platforms. It send members notifications on certain types of events, and enables them to review and rank events.

Second place went to agri-tech startup Abithrone, while book distribution platform Addistag Systems came in third.

The other startups taking part were solar-based poultry incubator provider Kale General Electronics, nutrition communication platform VitaBite Nutrition, ridesharing platform GurshaRides, mobile payments startup Simbir and management software Yeneta, taxi app ZayRide, software provider MelaHub, and talent finder Stavimer.

The event was held at iceaddis, with additional support provided by XHub Addis, VC4Africa, 251 Communications, EastAfrica Gate, Krimson PLC, EIABC, Ethiopian Architects, DesignWeek and AddisInsight.

Seedstars World has already chosen winners in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria,Ghana,Ivory Coast and Mali.
