South African fintech startups Paygenius and iPay, alongside travel tech startup GoMetro, have been selected to travel to Paris, France to receive incubation.
Disrupt Africa reported in July on the launch of the Digital Lab Africa platform by the French Institute of South Africa, DISCOP AFRICA and TRACE, which aims to provide a springboard for African talent in multimedia creation with the support of leading French companies.
Having received 70 applications, three startups have now been chosen to head to Paris at the end of the month to receive a EUR3,000 (US$3,300) cash prize as well as residency and incubation at French digital clusters.
They are the Cape Town-based GoMetro, which last week announced a funding round from Tritech Media, and Paygenius, as well as Johannesburg startup iPay.
The programme was organised under the auspices of French Tech Cape Town, after the city in February became the sixth globally to join the programme, aimed at encouraging business and talent exchanges between France and South Africa.
The French Tech Hub project has the support of leading French companies such as Methys, Orange and Schneider Electric, while a web portal has been launched providing information about local economic partners and contacts, and support available to startups.
