Applications have opened for this year’s edition of the Ericsson Innovation Award for Sub-Saharan Africa, which will reward one innovator in the food space with US$10,000 in prize money.
This year’s edition of the award, for which applications are open here, is themed “The Future of Food”, and is aimed at student innovators and startups with technological solutions promoting sustainability in food.
The winner will be announced during the AfricaCom conference in Cape Town next month, with one innovator or startup taking home US$10,000 in cash and the chance to showcase their solution to industry experts.
Applicant teams must have at least two members, all of which must be registered students at a tertiary institution on October 1. Annual turnover must be less than US$800,000, and teams must submit a short video to support their application.
Finalists will be selected based on how well the innovation addresses the theme, and the impact of the innovation on sustainability. The level of scalability and the financial implication of the innovation will also be considered.
