Seedstars World has opened applications to the Gaborone-based leg of the competition, with the top 10 startups from Botswana to battle it out for a place in the global finals, and the chance to win US$1 million in equity investment.
The Seedstars Gaborone event will take place on November 4, with applications now open for startups hoping to pitch. The deadline for applications is October 29.
To be eligible to compete, startups must be less than two years old, have received less than US$500,000 in funding, and have an available minimum viable product (MVP).
The startup crowned winner of the Botswana event will join other regional winners at the global finals to be held in Switzerland in April 2017, where startups from around the world will pitch head-to-head for up to US$1 million.
The 2016 edition of Seedstars World has seen the number of African countries included in the world-touring competition increased to 20; with seven countries hosting local heats of the event for the first time.
Winners have already been selected in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, and Senegal. Next up is Algeria on October 29, followed by Zimbabwe on October 30.
