Lagos’ newest co-working space, V8, has opened its doors in Lekki, aiming to support local tech startups by removing the hurdles in accessing reliable infrastructure in Nigeria.
The V8 space offers startups on-demand workspaces; secure enterprise grade internet and wifi; uninterrupted power supply; meeting,board and training rooms; and kitchen facilities.
According to co-founder Tobi Oke, Nigerian startups are hindered by higher than average infrastructure costs, which the new co-working space hopes to help businesses mitigate.
“A significant number of businesses have not been able to move past their startup phase due to these infrastructure hurdles which range from limited access to funding to the lack of very basic infrastructure,” said Oke.
“At V8, we are passionate about helping businesses overcome these obstacles by offering efficient and affordable infrastructure as a service.”
In addition to the co-working space, V8 will also launch an accelerator programme in 2017, providing funding, mentoring and infrastructure to Nigeria’s “best and brightest” technology companies.
Co-founder Ugo Okoye said V8 is intended to add to the ecosystem at large, and will focus on enabling collaboration.
“We don’t see ourselves as competition to other co-working spaces; we see ourselves as part of the ecosystem in Nigeria enabling entrepreneurship, innovation and collaboration.”
