Applications are open to the UP Accelerate programme, with eight startups tackling sexual health challenges in Uganda to be selected to take part and receive up to US$10,000 seed funding each.

Disrupt Africa reported earlier this month the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) announced it would launch its sexual health-related accelerator to Uganda in collaboration with Kampala-based hub Outbox following a successful launch in Nairobi.

The Up Accelerate programme seeks to explore new and engaging ways to tackle pressing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) challenges in Uganda while promoting social entrepreneurship among young people.

Startups selected to join the programme will participate in two phases of acceleration: a four month period of training, mentoring and assistance in fine-tuning their solutions and business models; and a two month phase of support in going to market.

Seed funding of up to US$10,000 per startup will be provided based on achievement of pre-agreed business milestones.

Eight youth-led startups will be selected to join the accelerator, which will run from January 2017, to October 2017. A shortlist of 30 startups will be drawn up based on public voting, and the final eight will be selected based on a pitching competition before judges.

Applications are open here, until December 22.
