Applications are open to the Africa Finance and Investment Forum (AFIF) Entrepreneurship Award 2017, offering African-based startups the chance to win US$10,000.

Hosted by non-profit African business network EMRC, the annual AFIF event aims to strengthen the private sector in Africa, encourage entrepreneurship and attract investment to the African continent.

AFIF will be held in Nairobi for the first time – hosted by Strathmore University – in February 2017; and will take the title “Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Growth”.

The annual Entrepreneurship Award has been held at AFIF since 2008 – with entrants presenting their businesses or projects at the event -, and seeks to encourage and reward innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa.

Applications are now open to this year’s award – sponsored by Rabobank Foundation -, and will see an existing African small or medium business crowned winner, receiving a US$10,000 cash prize, as well as year-long media promotion, support in and out of Africa, free participation in AFIF 2017, and pre-conference training.

“The AFIF Entrepreneurship Award aims to spotlight leading innovation private sector projects happening today in Africa. This is the moment when entrepreneurs can showcase their remarkable achievements, where partners and participants get to know about outstanding projects which are pushing boundaries in their community and country and where other entrepreneurs can be inspired and receive much-needed know-how,” says Inês Bastos, senior project manager at EMRC and head of AFIF 2017.

Applications close on December 19.
