Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has announced the 12 startups that will pitch at its event in Kigali, Rwanda, with the winner to represent the country at the global final next year for the chance to win up to US$1 million in equity investment.
Seedstars World has already chosen African winners in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Algeria and Botswana, and will hold its Rwanda event on December 6.
The startups selected to pitch for a place in the final in Switzerland include chat software Steadybits, data monitoring startup Blue Innovation, digital payments platform Mobicash, transport information service Dope Apps, group savings startup UPlus Mutual Partners, and fleet management solution QuickRide.
Ride-sharing app Gawana, agri-tech startup GO, mobile payments platform VugaPay, women’s health e-commerce platform Kasha, loans service MindSky, and lamp manufacturer Raisins complete the list.
“Rwanda is the success story of our continent. In the past few years only, there has been measurable advancements in integrating technology with the day to day life of Rwandans. We have heard so much about the bustling startup ecosystem in Rwanda and we are now here to witness the reality,” said Selam Kebede, Associate at Seedstars World.
The Rwanda competition will be carried out with the support of local lead partner, Rwanda Online, and local ambassador Aphrodice Mutangana of kLab, who is representing the initiative throughout the year.
