The Global Editors Network (GEN) has partnered Journalism.co.uk to launch a new edition of Startups For News (SFN), which is looking for early-stage startups with innovative solutions to newsroom challenges.
Global Editors Network and Journalism.co.uk have opened applications for SFN to startups from across the world. The international competition accelerates the development of selected startups through carefully planned exposure and engagement via its platforms and partners.
Early stage, high-potential ventures will be connected with a network of 12,000 editors-in-chief and senior media executives in 136 countries. Applicants must offer an innovative product or service to newsrooms, have been founded no earlier than 2013, and have received less than EUR1 million (US$1.06 million) in external funding.
The application period closes January 1, after which an international jury will select 16 startups to participate in online pitch battles during February and March of next year. Every week, the video presentations of two startups will be posted on the GEN website, with the public and the jury voting for their favourite startups.
The eight winning startups of the online pitch battles will be invited to pitch on the main stage at the GEN Summit in June 2017, with the winner receiving private mentorship sessions from GEN’s board members, a booth at the GEN Expo at the GEN Summit in 2018, exposure on the GEN media channels and an invitation to participate in Slush 2017.
