Startups from 18 African countries will take part in the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April, giving them the opportunity to pitch for up to US$1 million in equity investment.

Seedstars World toured Africa over the course of 2016, selecting winning startups in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Botswana and Rwanda.

Those companies will now pitch at the Seedstars Summit, where up to US$1 million of equity investment will be awarded to winners, as well as prizes worth over US$90,000 from over 20 partners including AWS, Microsoft and Facebook Start.

South African recruitment startup Giraffe was the overall winner of last year’s event, which gathered 800 guests from more than 55 countries and saw 53 startup finalists take part.

This year, 70 handpicked startups from 65 countries will be in attendance, alongside European entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, HNWIs, family offices, corporate executives, business angels, government officials, journalists and startup enthusiasts.

The event will take place on April 6 at the Swiss Tech Convention Centre in Lausanne, where up to US$500,000 in equity investment will be given to the Seedstars World global winner. The best startups in categories such as fintech, education, Intel solutions, most innovative startup, and best woman entrepreneur, as well as the public vote winner, will also be awarded investments and other prizes.

The Seedstars Summit is open to public, with tickets on sale here.
