Startups have been invited to submit entries to this year’s edition of the West Africa Mobile Awards (WAMAS), which look to celebrate the best in mobile and technology across West Africa.
The inaugural WAMAS held last year saw the likes of Pass.ng, Genii Games and Jason Njoku named winners, and this year’s event in Lagos will again look to recognise the individuals and companies that are the driving force of the region’s mobile ecosystem.
Applications are welcomed across 12 categories, with finalists offered industry recognition, networking opportunities and global publicity. Shortlisted finalists will also be showcased during the Mobile West Africa event.
Winners receive a wide range of benefits and advisory services to help drive their businesses forward, with the awards supported by the likes of BBM, Wimbart and Kasi Insights.
“After the staggering number of entries we had in 2016 and the progress that the industry is making we cannot wait for this year’s entries to come flooding in,” said WAMAS co-founder Matthew Dawes.
“I think the free to enter model and completely independent ethos behind the awards really hit home last year. All it takes is a few minutes and the next thing you know you and your company could be on stage picking up an award. What’s not to like about that?”
An expert judging panel that includes industry leaders, independent journalists, analysts, academics and VCs will assess all entries. The deadline for entries is March 31, with winners to be revealed at the awards ceremony on May 18 in Lagos.
