The 12 startups from around the world who will compete at the Seedstars Summit have been selected, following two days of intensive bootcamps to pick the finalists.

The Seedstars World startups pitching competition has toured the world over the past year, picking startups to compete for investment at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland.

On the African leg of the tour, regional winners were selected in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Botswana and Rwanda.

Regional winners travelled to Switzerland ahead of the Seedstars Summit – which takes place today – and participated in two days of intensive bootcamps and pitching sessions, as a result of which the 12 finalists have been selected.

The 12 startups will now pitch head-to-head at today’s Summit for up to US$1 million in equity funding.

Three startups from Africa have made the finals: Tanzanian micro-health insurance startup Jamii, Rwandan female health focused e-commerce platform Kasha, and Egypt’s social ride-sharing platform.

At last year’s finals, South African recruitment startup Giraffe was named the overall winner of the event, which gathered 800 guests from more than 55 countries and saw 53 startup startups take part.

This year, 70 startups from 65 countries will be in attendance, alongside European entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), family offices, corporate executives, business angels, government officials, journalists and startup enthusiasts.
