The co-working and event space at the new Nairobi iHub in Hurlingham is 90 per cent complete, with the first events having already taken place at the hub’s new location.
The iHub, launched in 2010, provides a home for Kenya’s tech community and allows developers and entrepreneurs to connect and work on ideas. It currently has more than 16,000 members.
Disrupt Africa reported in September the hub was to relocate from its Ngong Road home by the end of the year as it sought more space, after the iHub raised funding in order to help it scale operations, tighten up its service offerings and reach sustainability.
A new home was found, with the iHub relocating to Senteu Plaza, located on the corner of Lenana and Galana Roads in Hurlingham, in December, and renovation work has been underway ever since.
The co-working and event space is almost complete, with the first events having taken place over the last few weeks. More are scheduled for this month, while community desks will soon be available.
“We are excited to have more of you coming into the new space which offers a mix of creative work spaces and meeting rooms,” said Nekesa Were, director of platform services at the iHub.
“Thanks to our partners Seacom and Fireside Communications, you can expect the exceptional internet speeds that the iHub has been known for. Phase two will include build-out of our small and large offices and should be complete in June.”
Disrupt Africa reported in December the iHub is also set to launch a fund to invest in startups from across Africa as its restructuring continues. The fund will be an exclusive investment partner of iHub, and will engage, support and promote the entrepreneurs across Africa.
It is initially seeking US$10 million for a Nairobi pilot, but plans to grow to US$40 million over time and target other countries.
