She Leads Africa looking for 2nd accelerator cohort

She Leads Africa (SLA) has opened applications to the second edition of its three-month accelerator programme, with four sector-specific programmes to run in locations around Nigeria.

Disrupt Africa reported SLA launched its three-month accelerator for Nigerian women entrepreneurs last year, offering a NGN2 million (US$6,300) cash prize to the winner.

SLA has announced the accelerator is to return to Nigeria in 2017, and has opened applications in search of the next generation of the country’s brightest female entrepreneurs.

This edition of the programme will see four sector-specific accelerators take place in four different locations in Nigeria.

A retail and e-commerce accelerator will take place in Abuja; the agribusiness cohort will be hosted in Kaduna; the programme for entrepreneurs in the creative industry will be held in Lagos Island; while technology startups will be incubated in Lagos mainland.

Each programme will kick off with a one-week intensive bootcamp, followed by bi-weekly meet-ups held in the same location as well as bi-weekly virtual workshops.

The accelerator will culminate in a Demo Day to be held in November, with NGN2 million (US$6,300) on offer to the winning venture.

At last year’s Demo Day, agri-tech startup Fresh Direct NG went on to become the winner, beating the other nine members of the first cohort to take home the top prize.

Fresh Direct’s founder Angel Adelaja says of the SLA accelerator: “This was like a condensed Masters Programme. I am so different now and our company is thinking and strategizing differently.”

Applications are available here, until June 25.
