Virtual mobile insurance startup MovelCare has been named the winner of the Mozambique leg of the Seedstars World competition, and will now proceed to the global final to pitch for the chance to win US$500,000 in equity investment.
Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World, which is holding local events across Africa, used its Mozambican event to announce its annual Africa Regional Summit will take place in the country later this year.
It also named MovelCare as its overall winner, with the startup winning a trip to the global final in Switzerland next year. MovelCare is a virtual mobile insurance service that uses mobile phones to access funeral insurance without the use of the internet.
On-demand textiles service Karingana Wa Karingana Textiles came second, while crime reduction mobile platform AllTrack was third. The other nine startups to pitch were comparison and reviews platform Supevy, e-commerce platform buycomz, event management service Dream Solutions Enterprise, tourism platform Kharin, eco-friendly carwash app Publiaki, and e-learning startups Fakul, Olenvo, Side and Tech4Kids Academy.
Seedstars World partnered Standard Bank and local ambassador UX Information Technologies to run the Maputo event.
