Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has announced the three wildcard entries that will pitch in its South African event this week for a place in the global final.
Seedstars World has already held South African events in Cape Town and Johannesburg, with startups from each local event progressing to the country-wide finals. Three startups were picked in Cape Town, and four in Johannesburg.
It has now selected three wildcards to pitch alongside these startups at the final event on Thursday, June 29, the winner of which will proceed to the global finals in Switzerland to compete against other regional winners for up to US$500,000 in equity investment.
The three startups are legal e-commerce platform Lenoma Legal, digital rewards service Zlto, and food-growing solution Home Farm. They will pitch alongside EMG Technologies, GreenFingers Mobile, and mbora from Cape Town, and Johannesburg winners CommuScore, Empty Trips, Muzi and Invoiceworx.
“The quality of startups is validation of the abundance of talent in South Africa. 2017 being our third, we are seeing the impact Seedstars World has on the growth of the local ecosystem, as more founders are thinking global,” said Vuyisa Qabaka, partner at Seedstars World partner Entrepreneur Traction.
