E-health startup EMGuidance has been named winner of the South African leg of the global Seedstars World competition, and will now go on to pitch for US$500,000 in funding at the global final in Switzerland.
Early-stage startups competition Seedstars World picked 10 startups to pitch at the South African final – winners from Johannesburg and Cape Town mini-events plus three wildcards.
EMGuidance emerged the winner, earning a place at the global final in Switzerland next year. The startup has solved a critical problem for medical professionals by aggregating medical content from regional experts into one mobile app.
Zlto, a digital rewards platform that incentivises users for positive behaviour, came second, and smart transport marketplace Empty Trips came third.
“We had a pleasure of meeting talented entrepreneurs from different cities and backgrounds in South Africa, and seeing them do such an amazing job representing themselves and their startups on this big South Africa finals stage,” said Fanny Dauchez, associate for Seedstars World Africa. “We look forward to coming back again next year, and working with the South African ecosystem enablers to empower startups and give them tools to take their business to the next level.”
