Ventures Platform picks 6 startups for Abuja accelerator

The Abuja-based Ventures Platform, a seed-stage fund and accelerator that actively finds, funds and supports innovative companies solving real problems across the African continent, has chosen six startups to take part in its latest programme.

Launched last year, Ventures Platform is a full-service innovation hub in Abuja, which runs an 16-week hybrid incubation programme, a residence for need-based cohorts and a paid co-working space for freelance entrepreneurs and professionals.

In January it showcased the six companies that took part in its inaugural programme, and it has now selected another six for acceleration after applications were received from over 900 companies.

The startups are localised SaaS accounting platform Accounteer, subscription-based preventive healthcare service for older people Gerocare, fashion e-commerce platform Lastprice, off-campus hostel booking and roommate finding platform MyPadi, agricultural crowdfunding service Thrive Agric, and content streaming startup VIVA.

“Through its accelerator, Ventures Platform has funded companies who have deployed solutions much needed by Africa in finance, logistics, data, communication and educational sector of the economy,” Ventures Platform said.

“The core of the accelerator program is helping founders focus on building great products, talking to users, and selling. The companies have also been matched with mentors and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence to provide them with technical and professional support to support their growth.”
