World-touring startups pitching competition Seedstars World is seeking 10 Ugandan startups to pitch at the Kampala-based edition of the contest, with the winner to represent Uganda at the global finals in Switzerland.
This year’s edition of Seedstars World sees the world-touring contest include visits to more than 25 cities across Africa, with new countries such as Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mauritius, Madagascar, Sudan and Zambia added to its tour.
The winner from each local event is invited to the finals of the competition, to be held at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April 2018, where finalists compete for up to US$500,000 in equity investment.
Seedstars World has partnered Stanbic Bank and local tech hub Outbox to host the Ugandan leg of the competition, with takes place at Outbox on August 4.
Up to 10 startups will be selected to compete at the Kampala event.
“Together with Seedstars, we have been able to demonstrate to the local ecosystem that simplicity of solutions and businesses is key to driving entrepreneurship growth based on the teams that have represented Uganda. The Kampala event yet presents another opportunity for our local community to share knowledge and be part of the discussion on how to grow entrepreneurship in emerging markets,” says Richard Zulu, co-founder at Outbox Hub.
To be eligible to apply, startups must be less than two years old, have raised less than US$500,000 in funding and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction. Startups should also be able to demonstrate regional and global scalability.
“Uganda has never failed to produce top notch entrepreneurs and we are happy to be back again” said Claudia Makadristo, regional manager for Africa at Seedstars World.
Applications are open here, until July 27.
