Global seed-stage startup competition Seedstars World has announced the nine startups that will pitch at its event in Kampala, Uganda for a place in the global final and the chance of securing US$500,000 equity investment.
Seedstars World, which is hosting local events across Africa ahead of its global final in Switzerland next year, has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania and South Africa.
It returns to Uganda for the first time on August 4, with the support of the Stanbic Bank Uganda and local ambassador Outbox Hub, and has selected nine startups to take part.
They include mobile payments platform Chap Chap Africa, agri-tech cost planning startup Charis for Grace, healthcare platform ClinicPesa, fingerprint car ignition system Kuanza Gari, and solar-powered street cart provider Musana Carts.
The list is completed by business financial management app Numida, online TV service TrendingshoW, digital marketing and payments startup Ubuntu Capital, and e-health app hiDr.
“Seedstars World is a platform connecting investors to the next generation of startup entrepreneurs, pulling the spotlight from Silicon Valley and Western Europe. As this will be our third time to organise our event in Kampala, our excitement level and expectations are high,” said Fanny Dauchez, associate for Africa at Seedstars World.
“We are impressed by what we have seen in the continent so far and cannot wait to put startups from Uganda on the map.”
