The uYilo eMobility Technology Innovation Programme (EMTIP) is inviting qualifying projects to submit proposals to its uYilo “Kick Start” fund, which supports e-mobility startups with funding for research and development.
The fund, for which applications are open until August 31, will provide selected projects with backing of up to ZAR500,000 (US$38,000) for individual participants and ZAR1 million (US$76,000) for collaborative projects.
The funding is focused on applied research that will accelerate Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) and lead to the creation of products, process or services that can be commercialised to advance the South African e-mobility industry.
“The fund aims to fast-track the development processes for those projects that currently cannot attract funding from other funding mechanisms but are of strategic importance. Successful projects will have to demonstrate the intent to further develop and commercialise the technology,” the EMTIP said.
The call is open to all participants in the electric vehicle innovation chain, including higher education institutions, industry and entrepreneurs. Funding for this financial year is limited and uYilo will prioritise applications according to a pre-approved scorecard.
