Barclays, SA ed-tech startup 42courses launch fintech course

Barclays has partnered South African branded learning startup 42courses to launch a certified fintech course, aimed at helping financial services professionals, developers and businesses understand the impact technology is having on the sector.

Launched last year, 42courses puts a new spin on the traditional e-learning model, introducing gamification techniques and allowing users to learn via a series of short and enjoyable stories in courses provided by some of the world’s top brands.

“Fintech is affecting us all, from the biggest banks to the people living in some of the remotest parts of the planet. Its growth has been immense, in the UK alone it is now almost double the size of the world’s music industry,” said 42courses founder Chris Rawlinson.

“Yet there is still a significant skills gap, and we’re grateful to Barclays for partnering with us in order to lift the lid on this important new industry.”

The course, put together by 42courses and Barclays’ fintech arm Rise, features industry leaders from companies such as TransferWise, The Bitcoin Foundation, Monzo, Barclays’ own head of innovation, Michael Harte, and Rise’s head of innovation Lubaina Manji.

It includes chapters on virtual currencies, payments, alternative loans and financing, insurtech and retail banking, as well as a look at the future of fintech. Those that successfully complete the course receive a certification from Barclays.

The fintech course from 42courses and Rise created by Barclays costs US$100 but can be purchased with a 20 per cent discount here.
