The annual entrepreneurship and technology Techne Summit is returning to Egypt for the third time at the end of the month, and will feature two startup competitions in addition to the event’s scheduled sessions.

The Techne Summit will take place in Alexandria, Egypt, for the third time running, on September 30 and October 1.  The event once again focuses on the theme “Technology.Innovation.Talent”.

The two-day event brings together players in the international technology industry, including representatives of established tech businesses, entrepreneurs and startups, investors, members of the public, and the media.  Sessions are structured into multiple tracks: e-commerce, fintech, marketing and media technology, investment, startup academy, tech disruption, shared economy. and women empowerment.

The Summit aims to bridge the gap between different stakeholders in the tech industry, and in particular aims to connect entrepreneurs with investors, partners and useful resources.

This year’s Summit will also feature four startup competitions.

The Alexandria leg of global seed-stage pitching competition Seedstars World to be held at Techne.  The winner will go on to pitch head-to-head against local winners from around the world at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland next year; where competitors stand the chance to win up to US$500,000 in equity investment.

Local media agency MO4 Network and its entrepreneurial platform, Startup Scene ME, will also host a pitching competition for media startups leveraging virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and social media for innovative storytelling.  Three startups will each win places on the MO4 Media Incubation Programme that offers US$10,000 worth of prizes in the form of services and mentorship.

International courier Aramex will host a pitching contest for e-commerce startups, with 10 shortlisted startups to pitch live in front of an investor panel. The winning competitor will be accepted onto Aramex’ incubator programme, and will win a trip to Dubai to visit the company’s facilities and explore the Dubai startup ecosystem.

Finally, Egyptian entrepreneurs with innovative tech-based solutions are invited to apply to the Alexandria Future Technopreneurs Competition 2017, offering the chance to win acceleration at the government-run Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre, as well as EGP15,000 (US$850) worth of support services.
