Nigerian startup UniversityCompass has launched to simplify the process of identifying institutions and selecting courses for prospective students.
Founded in April, UniversityCompass is positioning itself as Nigeria’s first university search engine and course selection system.
Seunla Osinowo began working on the project while in his final year at university, and established it as a business upon graduation. It employs artificial intelligence (AI) to select the best fit for users based on their criteria.
“Many think UniversityCompass is just a university selection system, but the goal is for it to be a career guide platform,” he said.
“Career development has a series of stages and the first conscious career decision many of us make is the choice of university and selecting an academic programme.”
The self-funded startup has already seen around 18,000 visits, and plans to introduce to more services relevant to undergraduates and graduates. It currently makes revenues by selling advertising, but plans to offer a subscription service before too long.
