Fintech startup Cinetpay has been named winner of the Ivory Coast leg of Seedstars World, and will represent the country at next year’s final in Switzerland to compete for up to US$1 million in equity investment.
Seedstars World is hosting local events across Africa this year, and has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia and Nigeria.
Its event in Abidjan took place on September 8, with Cinetpay emerging the winner after pitching alongside seven other startups. The company has developed a mobile money payment gateway that enables online and offline merchants to accept mobile money and card payments.
Cinetpay will now participate at the Seedstars Summit, taking place in Switzerland in April 2018, a week-long training programme with the opportunity to meet the other 75 winners, as well as investors and mentors from around the world.
The final day of the event will be dedicated to pitching in front of audience of 1,000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to the US$1 million in equity investment.
WeFly Agri, which develops drones that enables farmers to get updated information on the state of their crops and fields, and Educas, an education platform that allows anyone to learn independently and access additional support resources, came second and third respectively.
