Seedstars World has announced the 11 startups selected to pitch at the Nairobi edition of the competition, set to take place at local innovation hub Nailab on Friday (November 10).
Global early-stage startups contest Seedstars World has been hosting local events around Africa over recent months, and has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Rwanda, Angola, Morocco, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.
The winner of each local round progresses to the global finals held at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April; where they will go head-to-head against winners from around the world in a bid to win a share of US$1 million in equity funding as well as other prizes.
The 11 startups selected to pitch in Nairobi on Friday are BuuPass Kenya – a digital marketplace for bus and train tickets; online health consultation service ConnectMed; online recruitment tool Jobsikaz Africa; adaptive learning solution M-Shule; podcasting and audiobook production company PortableVoices; and e-commerce and price comparison platform Sokompare.
Also pitching are Konnector – which links motorcyle taxis with passengers; cloud business management solution for small businesses TozzaPlus; insurtech tool WazInsure; Sinbad – a platform for obtaining marine cargo insurance; and the BrillantPay suite of modern and scalable payment APIs.
The selected startups will also attend a half day bootcamp at Nairobi Garage and meet with mentors from the local ecosystem to go over their pitch and business proposal. Members of the public are welcome to attend to watch the competition. Registration to attend is here.
