Eleven startups from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda have been named finalists in the Sankalp Awards, earning the chance to pitch at the Sankalp Africa Summit later this month.
The annual Sankalp Africa Summit takes place in Nairobi on February 21-22, bringing together a variety of stakeholders from the impact investing and social entrepreneurship space.
Every year the summit features the Sankalp Africa Awards, finalists of which attend the event for free and benefit from one-on-one investment readiness preparation. The top five will showcase their innovations on the main stage of the event.
The 11 finalists, which hail from four East African countries, were chosen from hundreds of applications by a jury committee of investment professionals, business leaders and sector champions.
They include four from Kenya, namely ed-tech startup Elewa, aquaculture company Lakeview, insurtech startup IFA, and affordable housing provider Kwangu Kwako, and three from Tanzania – agricultural equipment manufacturer Imara Tech, clean energy company Jaza, and food processing company OBRI.
Rwanda is represented by two companies in the shape of off-grid energy startup Mesh Power and factoring startup BeneFactors, as is Ugandan, by food processing company Pink Foods and agri-tech startup Nampya Farmers’ Market.
