Egypt’s Vetwork raises seed funding round led by Cairo Angels

By Tom Jackson on November 27, 2019 News, North Africa

On-demand pet care startup Vetwork has raised an undisclosed seed funding round led by Cairo Angels as it looks to continue growing its customer base and expand internationally.

Founded in 2017 by veterinarians Fady Azzouny, Abdelrheem Hussein and Zeinab ElGeziry, Vetwork allows users to book a variety of pet care services from the comfort of their laptop or mobile phone.

The company services users in Cairo, Alexandria, and the North Coast, and has just expanded to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This growth will be propelled by the round of seed funding, which is led by Cairo Angels, a global network of angel investors focused on supporting startup opportunities in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.

Also including Misk 500 Startups and a number of Saudi angel investors, the round is the first raised by Vetwork and will help the company continue to expand.

“There are two reasons that make this investment very close to my heart: first, it’s coming from the Cairo Angels, which is one of the leading angel networks in MENA, who are also the engine behind MINT Incubator in cooperation with EG Bank, the incubator where we got introduced for the first time to “what is a startup?” and to the ecosystem,” Azzouny said.

“Second, we believe working with Cairo Angels will get us exposed to their deep expertise in investment, consultancy, and growth, we believe that their commitment to our company will give us a very promising runway for the next few months. We are excited in taking the next step in our growth story and better serving our customers.”

Zeina Mandour, general manager of Cairo Angels, said the organisation was pleased to have closed the round and to have co-invested with other regional angel investors.

“We are very confident in the Vetwork team, who we have worked with closely when they were part of the MINT Incubator. Since then, they have gone from strength to strength and they have already expanded in different areas in the region, including most notably Saudi Arabia. The sky is the limit for the Vetwork team,” Mandour said.
