Rwandan startups have been invited to apply for the ZEP-RE InsurTech Programme, which will support scalable startups in creating new markets and optimising efficiency.
The first insurtech incubator in Rwanda, organised by the PTA Reinsurance Company (ZEP-RE) in partnership with Westerwelle Startup Haus, will select 25 startups for an Insurtech Hackathon next month, after which it will select five teams to join a six-month incubation programme.
Three out of five teams will receive cash prizes up US$15,000 at the end of the programme, while the ZEP-RE investment team will evaluate all startups for potential seed investment and further support to scale in the COMESA region.
Other benefits include access to industry experts and mentors; networking opportunities with potential investors, partners and corporate customers; free workspace and resources to help startups scale; and the opportunity to scale into the new and untapped industry of insurtech.
Startups should have a multidisciplinary team with demonstrated experience in their field; an interest and commitment to pivot to the insurance industry; and an existing product or service that can potentially be used in the insurance industry. The programme is particularly interested in startups in fintech, agri-tech, e-health, legal-tech, climate-tech and blockchain-enabled solutions.
Applications are open here until March 15.
