Applications are now open for the 13th Orange Social Venture Prize in Africa and the Middle East, which aims to contribute to socio-economic development, support social and environmental innovation, and encourage entrepreneurship.
Since 2011, the prize has been awarded to innovative projects by startups, based on information and communication technologies that have a positive social impact in Africa and the Middle East in the fields of education, healthcare, e-commerce, and agriculture, or that contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.
The competition begins with a national stage to collect applications in Orange’s 17 subsidiaries in Africa and the Middle East, after which three winners in each market will qualify for the second phase of the competition. The international stage will see all of these companies evaluated, and 10 finalists selected. A final jury of African tech influencers will select three winners in October/November 2023.
These winners will receive EUR25,000 (US$27,000) for first place, EUR15,000 (US$16,000) for second place, and EUR10,000 (US$11,000) for third place.
The International Women’s Prize will be awarded for the fourth consecutive year. This prize will be awarded to a woman who offers a technological solution to improve the living conditions of women, with the winner receiving EUR20,000 (US$21,000).
Applications are open here until May 21.
