Five African startups have won cash prizes at the 14th edition of the Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP) in Africa and the Middle East.

Since 2011, the OSVP has been at the heart of Orange’s strategy to contribute to the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the inclusive growth of the countries where the Group operates in Africa and the Middle East.

The winners of the 14th edition of OSVP, which recognises and supports startups whose technological solutions have a positive social impact in Africa and the Middle East, were announced at the international ceremony in Morocco, with five of the 1,600 candidates from 17 countries winning awards.

The International Grand Prize, which recognises the top three technology-based projects with a social or environmental impact, was won by Moroccan logistics solution SAVEY, which took home EUR25,000 (US$27,000). Second place went to Tunisian electronics platform WeFix, which won EUR15,000 (US$16,000), and third place to Ivory Coast-based AI startup Cocoa Shield, which banked EUR10,000 (US$11,000).

The EUR20,000 (US$21,000) International Women’s Prize, which is awarded to a startup whose high-impact project is led by a woman, went to Morocco’s MyTindy, an online platform that connects artisans with customers around the world. And the EUR10,000 (US$11,000) Coup de Cœur prize, which is awarded to a project that stands out for its originality, went to Egyptian AI startup Intella.
