Open Access Energy (OAE), a South African software company focused on optimising energy transactions, has partnership PEC Utility Management as its metering partner, ensuring a reliable national metering footprint and supporting accurate billing for wheeling clients across South Africa.

Founded in 2021, Open Access Energy has developed the Amptera and Energypro platforms, which facilitate real-time energy transactions and enhance energy management for IPPs and municipalities.

Disrupt Africa reported in August the company had secured a US$750,000 investment from Factor E Ventures, marking the initial tranche of a US$1.5 million seed round that will be used to expand operations. The partnership with PEC, and access to its established expertise and coverage, will enable Open Access Energy to expand its reach, ensuring a consistent, accurate, and dependable metering service nationwide.

This partnership will empower wheeling customers to confidently handle billing for their end users, backed by the national footprint that PEC provides. The move also strengthens Open Access Energy’s offering within its wheeling platform, designed to support renewable energy adoption across Eskom and multiple municipalities.

In an additional strategic step, PEC has entered into a collaboration with EverSolar, South Africa’s leading provider of renewable energy solutions. This partnership allows PEC clients to seamlessly share their meter data on Open Access Energy’s Energypro platform, providing them with enhanced visibility into their energy usage.

“This partnership with PEC and EverSolar marks a significant milestone in Open Access Energy’s mission to enhance energy reliability and affordability for all South Africans,” said Gerjo Hoffman, CEO of Open Access Energy. “It reflects our ongoing efforts to build a future where South African businesses and municipalities can access cleaner, more affordable energy solutions.”
