South Africa’s The Awareness Company, a SaaS startup that turns business data into powerful insights for operations and sustainability, has raised US$1.6 million in seed funding to boost marketing and sales efforts, as well as enhance the AI capabilities of the product.

The Awareness Company was formed in April 2018, with the team having previously worked together within research, development and innovation in the public sector.

The startup uses data-driven storytelling to help people, communities and organisations to become more efficient and impactful. HYDRA, its technology, combines AI, IoT and data analytics to create solutions for agriculture and conservation, safety and security, and smart buildings and cities.

Its US$1.6 million seed round was secured from investors including NEXT176, Holocene, Catalyst Fund, E Squared, Aions, and Jozi Angels, and will be used to boost marketing and sales efforts, as well as enhance the AI capabilities of the product.

The Awareness Company is committed to taking a single data point to depths never seen before, unlocking insights that revolutionise how sustainability challenges are addressed and drive measurable impact across people, planet and profit.

“This funding marks a significant milestone for us as we continue to innovate in the operational sustainability space. With our new investors, our support has grown and there is belief in our vision by people who want to push boundaries. This is just the start,” said Priaash Ramadeen, co-founder and CEO of The Awareness Company.

“We are thrilled to be backing the amazing team behind The Awareness Company. As an investor, we are committed to funding innovative solutions that allow businesses and people to make more data-driven decisions that drive scalable impact. HYDRA epitomises this ethos, and we cannot wait to see how this and future products scale across Africa,” said Tramayne Monaghan, chief ventures officer at NEXT176.
