Senegalese e-health startup Eyone has been named winner of the latest Africa’s Business Heroes competition, taking home US$300,000 in prize money.
The Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) competition is a philanthropic programme supported by the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Philanthropy to honour and elevate African entrepreneurs.
Each year since 2019, ABH awards a total grant of US$1.5 million to 10 deserving entrepreneurs, and also provides significant exposure, training, mentorship and networking opportunities.
After receiving around 20,000 applications from all 54 African countries, 10 finalists were selected for this year’s edition of the competition last October. The overall winner was Eyone, a Senegalese startup that has developed a medical interoperability platform that provides healthcare professionals and patients with real-time medical records. The startup took home US$300,000 in prize money.
In second place, winning US$250,000, was Morocco’s Green Watech, while third place, and US$150,000, went to Kenya’s Solutech.
“This achievement is the result of a lot of hard work, and I am incredibly proud of my team. It’s a significant milestone for us, and it serves as an encouragement for us to keep working towards solving the problem our innovation addresses. It motivates us to continue tackling the big challenges our country faces,” said Eyone’s CEO Henri Ousmane Gueye.
