South African fintech startup PayJustNow has 2.5 million users signed up for its buy now pay later (BNPL) services, and is adding 100,000 new customers each month.
Founded in 2019. Founders Craig Newborn, Greg van der Riet and Mark McChlery identified an opportunity to bring the popular BNPL concept taking off in Australia to the South African market, PayJustNow was the first to pioneer a payment solution catering to the South African market, allowing them to split purchases into three equal, interest-free installments.
The company was acquired by Weaver Fintech, a division of Homechoice International (HiL), in 2022, and is now led by Dean Hyde, Greg van der Riet, and Mark McChlery. It has 2.5 million South Africans signed up, and more than 3,000 directly integrated merchants across 10,000 points of presence throughout the country. It is signing up more than 100,000 new customers each month.
“PayJustNow is evolving from South Africa’s favourite BNPL provider, to a payment platform offering a full suite of credit options, and connecting South African consumers and retailers, providing a one-stop shopping experience,” Hyde said.
“The platform is changing the face of South Africa’s retail landscape, delivering convenience and accessibility to the consumer, while driving retail sales and improving customer acquisition and retention for the merchant.”
