SA retail-tech startup Skynamo acquired by Klipboard to accelerate growth

South African startup Skynamo, a unified sales operations platform, has been acquired by the UK-headquartered firm Klipboard, a global provider of vertically focused business management software.

Originally founded as Honeybee in 2012, Skynamo is a unified sales operations platform designed specifically for manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors, which supports nearly 1,000 customers, facilitates more than US$70 million in monthly order value for its clients, and enables millions of customer interactions each year through its mobile-first, cloud-based technology.

Having scaled to the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US), the company raised a US$30 million Series A funding round in January 2020, the company has now been acquired by the London-based Klipboard is a vertically focused, cloud-based business management software provider serving over 55,000 enterprise and SMB customers globally.

The move strengthens Skynamo’s ability to support complex sales and operational environments for nearly 1,000 businesses every day across Sub-Saharan Africa, the UK and the US, while continuing to expand the platform.

The partnership enhances Skynamo’s ability to integrate more deeply with ERP and business management systems, creating a stronger, more connected technology ecosystem for the distributive industries.

“Joining Klipboard marks an exciting next chapter for Skynamo and our customers. We’ve built a platform that unifies sales operations in industries where complexity is the norm. With Klipboard’s complementary solutions and global reach, we can extend that value even further — while continuing to invest in what makes Skynamo so effective,” said Sam Clarke, CEO of Skynamo.

Klipboard CEO Ian Bendelow said Skynamo’s unified sales operations platform was highly respected and widely adopted by manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors.

“This acquisition strengthens our position in Sub-Saharan Africa and internationally, and supports our strategy of investing in innovative, sector-focused solutions that help customers grow,” he said.

Skynamo will continue operating under its established brand, with sustained investment in product development, innovation and customer support.
