Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has announced the 12 startups that will pitch at its Johannesburg satellite event this week for a place in the overall South African final of the competition.

This year, Seedstars World is running satellite events in Johannesburg – on May 26 – and Cape Town – on June 8 – ahead of the main South Africa finals, to be held on June 29.

The overall winner will take part in the global final in Switzerland next year, giving it the opportunity to pitch for up to US$500,000 in equity investment.

The 12 startups that are selected to participate at the Seedstars World pitching event include digital investment tool Arcus Capital, piloting platform BeaconWorx, credit scoring startup CommuScore, smart transport marketplace Empty Trips, e-health startup Muzi Tech, and business administration platform Ploiter.

Also taking part are smart glove Powershare, big data startup Simplus Innovation, wireless power startup WiPo, investtech startup Easy Equities, inventory financing platform Invoiceworx, and legal e-commerce site Lenoma Legal.

“Since we launched the Seedstars World initiative, we have witnessed the growth and acceleration many entrepreneurs that came through the programme. This year, we have received a record number of applications and we are excited to find the next potential global Seedstars World winner,” said Claudia Makadrito, regional manager for Seedstars World Africa.
