Applications have opened for the fourth edition of the eight-month OceanHub Africa accelerator, which will support up to 12 of Africa’s most promising impact for-profit startups focused on preserving and restoring the health of the ocean.

The OceanHub Africa accelerator, which selected its third cohort last October, is on a mission to support ocean-minded startups, with the express aim of nurturing an environmentally conscious and profitable economy that effectively mitigates the effects of global warming as well as the overexploitation and pollution of the oceans.

Leveraging its highly qualified network of stakeholders and facilitators, it will deliver to the accelerated startups an online programme that seeks out sustainable pathways yielding stable profits (ROIs) and avenues for scalable growth throughout Africa.

Selected companies will gain access to a network of leading ocean experts, mentors, impact investors and potential clients, as well as up to US$75,000 worth of cloud service from AWS Activate and over US$40,000 worth of mechanical engineering design software licences for prototyping and virtual testing, via partner 3DExperience Lab.

They will participate in an in-person training bootcamp, and access tailored business skills and personal development via one-on-one coaching, as well as be able to attend networking events and conferences, including a stand and stage time at the Ocean Innovation Africa annual summit.

There will also be potential funding of up to US$10,000, and support in preparing and running investor pitches, as well as support in structuring deals. OceanHub offers access to a large portfolio of impact investors as part of its ecosystems.

Applicant startups must be ocean-minded, for-profit, and have a scalable service or product available on the market or soon to be available on the market. Applications are open here until May 14, with the eight-month programme beginning in July.
