Social Capital Foundation to double Asante Africa entrepreneurship donations

The Social Capital Foundation (SCP) has renewed its commitment to support the Asante Africa Foundation’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator programme with a yearly US$20,000 matching grant to double donations collected over the next two years.

The SCP partnered the Asante Africa Foundation last year to support education and leadership development programmes in East Africa, with the arrangement now renewed as both organisations say they recognise education means nothing without life skills and the ability to apply knowledge beyond the classroom.

“The Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator addresses needs beyond academics. As these young people finish school, they must have the leadership and life skills to prepare for successful careers and create positive change in their communities,” said Erna Grasz, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Asante Africa Foundation.

The Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator looks to inspire participants to create their own personal and professional development plans, with young people aged between 15 and 21 from rural areas of Kenya and Tanzania convening for the annual seminar, followed throughout the year with local individual and group coaching.

Trainees work with their peers across borders to learn from local educators, business owners and peer leaders about personal leadership and development, with alumni returning in successive years as team leaders and facilitators.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Asante Africa Foundation’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator program for a second year. This is an incredible programme that truly empowers the youth in East Africa by providing them with leadership and life skills that will be applicable at any age. We at the SCF have seen first hand exactly how the LEI program gives back to the local community and we’re honored to be part of the program,” said Laura DeVere, founder and director of the Social Capital Foundation.
