KejaHunt wins UberPITCH event in Nairobi

House-hunting platform KejaHunt emerged the winner from the UberPITCH event held in Nairobi earlier this week, earning a place in the PIVOT East workshops and KES15,000 (US$150) in Uber credits.

Disrupt Africa reported earlier this month entrepreneurs in Nairobi would have the opportunity to pitch their startups from the back of an Uber taxi, with a similar event also set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria.

Uber received more than 500 requests to meet the venture capitalists riding in Ubers, which included 88mph Nairobi director Nikolai Barnwell, Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) director of business development Katie Sarro, EatOut founder Mikul Shah and Nest Africa managing partner Aaron Fu.

KejaHunt, a mobile and web application that helps users find houses without engaging agents, was declared the winner, and will now take part in workshops including business coaching, mentorship sessions and investor relations discussions.

“Their idea was innovative, their execution was excellent and their pitch was polished,” the judges said.

“We were incredibly impressed by every startup we saw, and choosing just one winner was a serious challenge. However, after close review and calibration of our judge’s scores, we are thrilled to announce KejaHunt.”

The pitching teams spent seven minutes together in an Uber, with other startups taking part including e-retailer Bantu Shoes, neighbourhood app Ujirani and data startup ENT Mobile.
