U-Start Conference Africa set for Cape Town tomorrow

The third annual U-Start Conference Africa is to take place in Cape Town, South Africa tomorrow, bringing together entrepreneurs and investors from local and international ecosystems.

The conference will host guest speakers including Alan Winde, minister of economic opportunities for the Western Cape;  Keet van Zyl, partner and co-founder at Knife Capital; Hannes Van Rensburg, founder of Fundamo; and Paul Cook, managing partner at Silvertree Capital; among others.

“I’m hugely excited by the current wave of innovation in how to build and fund startups that can succeed in the Africa and South African context. Conferences like this help share learning on what can be adopted from elsewhere, and what needs to be rethought to fit local opportunities,” said Cook.

Panel sessions gathering together the continent’s wealth of entrepreneurs will cover topics such as “The Makings of a Feasible, Sustainable and Scalable Enterprise”; while the investor panel will tackle the topic of venture capital investing in emerging markets.

Expert panels will discuss contentious investment issues ranging from reserve bank and exchange control considerations, to lessons learned about the accelerator models most effective in Africa.

“The U-Start Africa Conference will provide a rare and unique opportunity for multiple stakeholders – private investors, family offices, VC funds, government entities, corporates, growth stage tech and digital ventures, startups and professional services organizations to interact with each other and hear from leading national and international experts,” said Zachariah George, chief operating officer (COO) of U-Start Africa.

The event runs alongside similar conferences taking place in Brazil, Chile, Turkey, Italy and Switzerland.

Doors open at 10am at Cape Town’s City Hall; tickets can be purchased via the U-Start Africa website.
