Social enterprise She Leads Africa and Chinese telecoms firm Huawei have partnered to offer a selected group of Africa’s most promising females technology entrepreneurs the chance to participate in an innovation exchange to China.

Applications are now open for the August programme, which will see entrepreneurs building tech startups in Africa embark on a week-long tour of Shenzhen and Shanghai to receive a behind the scenes experience at Huawei, network with peers, and develop relationships with investors and companies interested in doing business in Africa.

The entrepreneurs will meet some of China’s best and brightest young entrepreneurs and visit technology incubators and design factories.

“We are extremely pleased to partner with Huawei to provide African female tech entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn what it takes to become to build a global company and develop the connections and relationships it takes to make that happen,” said She Leads Africa co-founder Yasmin Belo-Osagie.

The fellowship marks the second collaboration between She Leads Africa and Huawei, after the latter was one of the flagship sponsors for She Leads Africa’s Entrepreneur Showcase in September last year.

Applications for the fellowship close on April 30, and can be submitted online.

Disrupt Africa reported in January She Leads Africa had partnered Intel to run a series of workshops across Africa, aimed at providing skills and business training. Events took place in Nairobi, Kenya, Lagos, Nigeria, and Johannesburg, South Africa.

She Leads Africa said the educational workshops looked to support female entrepreneurs by providing them with the skills necessary to “derisk” and successfully launch a tech startup.
