Easy Taxi Kenya expands outside of Nairobi with Nakuru launch

Taxi app Easy Taxi has expanded outside of the Kenyan capital Nairobi for the first time with a launch in Nakuru, with a welcome offer available to new customers for this month only.

Easy Taxi, which launched in Brazil in 2011 and now operates in 420 cities across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia, is now available to Nakuru residents, who are being offered KES400 (US$4) off their first ride until June 30.

“Nakuru is a city with great promise. When we first visited Nakuru we were impressed by its vibrancy. You could clearly notice that things were moving,” said Brian Mogeni, Easy Taxi’s city launcher.

“However, we also noticed a challenge in the county where most of the taxis in Nakuru are along one street, so if you aren’t within the city centre you might not be able to get a taxi. We realised that Easy Taxi could provide a whole lot of value to residents in Nakuru and so far it has been pretty fulfilling when we see a smile on both the driver and passenger’s face.”

To use Easy Taxi, users must download the app, available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices.

  1. Am not sure if they stand any chance of success there. They should have gone to mombasa instead. Nakuru is too small of a town for a taxi hailing app to make sense.
