South African transport solutions startup WhereIsMyTransport has been awarded the 2015 Global Grand MobiPrize, which honours the business venture making the greatest impact on revitalising the environment and economy of communities and regions through sustainable transportation and new mobility enterprise.

The prize was founded in 2012 at the Rio + 20 Climate Conference, and was also awarded in 2014 at the ITS World Congress in Michigan. WhereIsMyTransport will be awarded the 2015 prize at a summit in New Delhi, India in March.

The startup raised a seed round of ZAR12 million (US$900,000) in September and announced the beginning of its expansion overseas with the launch of an office in London, United Kingdom (UK). Disrupt Africa reported in March on its launch of Findmyway, an app offering a point-to-point journey planner integrating public and alternate modes of transport, in Tshwane.

New mobility refers to moving people and goods in ways that are cleaner, greener, safer, healthier and more equitable than currently practiced. Mobi Platform hosts the prize, supported by the Rockefeller Foundation as part of their project in “Catalyzing the New Mobility in Cities”.

WhereIsMyTransport has also signed the 2015 Entrepreneur’s Call for Climate Action at the COP21, having been approached by the WWF to join the first round of signatures on the Call, which now features over 70 CEOs of cleantech and sustainable startups.
